Three Days, Three Quotes Challenge -Day 3

This Door is Alarmed’ was nominated for this challenge by The Britchy One. Her site is a comical whirlwind; if you read just one sentence, you will find yourself helplessly riding a tide of giggles and tremendous wit to her last word. I recommend checking her out.

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for three consecutive days. (I am going to redesign ‘consecutive’ to mean ‘when you are able’ for my purposes.)
  3. Nominate three bloggers for each post.

I would love to say this quote was an original She-ism, but I must scrub the plate clean and confess: it is not. Now comes the even more disappointing bit—I heard it once in a speech, but for the life of me I could not place or picture the speaker. He was an older chap, sixty-ish, but I recall little else about him, because all my attention was focused entirely his incredible nose.

The nose was like no other nose, it was curved, it was tapered, was crammed with dense hair the way crepe paper is rammed into birthday bags, and it was ever so slightly—hooked! It reminded me of Ursula the sea witch from ‘The Little Mermaid’: a comic strip sniffer dragged kicking and screaming into the real world!

But I digress…

All noses and excuses aside, he made made a powerful speech, but it was the final 14 words that stuck with me. Those 14 words were the advice he gave his son on the day he left home:

Nobody is more important than you are: nobody is less important than you are.

As we navigate the complex linkages and cul-de-sacs that life pelts our way, occasionally we light upon the big cats who lick their paws atop their self-constructed pedestals and stare down below, watching the little people’s confidence quiver and wilt—this is where the quote has its glory.

When a tangible squeal pierces our integrity and superiority builds a silver throne one level above the rest, perhaps it’s due to money, circumstance, or Bertie Wooster-style upbringing—this is where the quote has its glory.
